Creative Wellness

The Indy Art Center embraces and encourages creative wellness, a process of improving individual and community health by appreciating beauty, engaging creativity, expressing self and tapping into diverse perspectives in the consideration of complex topics.

“We are delighted that the Art Center’s Creative Wellness program can help people discover the power of art to create a sense of fulfillment and well-being. We are honored the legacy of Joe and Will Lawrance is making that possible.”
Jan and Mark Lawrance (parents of Joe and Will Lawrance)

BetterTogether Creative Wellness Fund in memory of Joe and Will Lawrance

The BetterTogether Creative Wellness Fund in memory of Joe and Will Lawrance will allow us to offer creative wellness programming to help individuals and the community engage in the healing power of creativity in a time when mental health resources too often are limited or not accessible. By providing opportunities for self-expression, emotional release and an appreciation for others’ lives, the creation and appreciation of art promotes mental health, creative thinking, idea generation, problem-solving, connections across traditional boundaries, and more.

At the Art Center, we see this every day. Our students share countless stories of finding purpose, connection and community in our studios. They say that art allows them to deal with complicated emotions and major life challenges such as grief and trauma. They say the safe spaces of our classrooms give them a means for expressing themselves as themselves.

For these reasons, the Indy Art Center is dedicated to providing the space, opportunities, guidance and resources for the pursuit of creative wellness.
