Join Mary Zicafoose, fiber artist, weaver, writer, and teacher who specializes in ikat, an ancient technique in which threads are wrapped, tied, and resist-dyed before weaving. Your 3-day workshop is a unique opportunity to work with Mary as she leads you in the creation of a dramatic and beautiful high contrast blue and white resist-dyed, scarf utilizing the distinctive shifted warp ikat process.

Nebraska artist Mary Zicafoose is a master of ikat, a complex resist-dye textile process. She received her BFA from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, graduate studies include the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Nebraska. A three-time USA Artist Fellowship nominee, Zicafoose is co-director emerita of the American Tapestry Alliance. Her tapestries have been exhibited in the International Triennial of Tapestry, Lodz, Poland; Museo de Textil, Oaxaca, Mexico; China National Silk Museum, Hangzhou, and the collections of two dozen United States Embassy’s abroad. The extensive exhibition, teaching, and lecture venues include the de Young Museum, San Francisco, Penland School of Craft, Penland, NC, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN, and universities, conferences, and textile programs worldwide. She is the author of “Ikat: The Essential Guide to Weaving Resist Dyed Cloth”, published by Penguin Random House.
Designed to inspire participants of all art media and levels of experience, this color workshop is a unique opportunity to work with fiber artist, teacher, and writer, Mary Zicafoose whose art is shown internationally. This one-day workshop is an intensive dip into the excitement and fun of working with saturated color. Inspired by the work of the legendary colorist, Josef Albers, students will create a personal color workbook composed of dozens of selected exercises using Color-aid papers.
