This 1988 zero-budget action oddity is the result of writer/director/star, Jim Van Bebber's insistence that he could be an action star. The result is a bonkers action film worthy of the 80's filled with bad F/X, questionable acting, and absolutely insane fight scenes. In true 80's style, this movie does not hold back. Grab your popcorn and strap in for this one.

A/V CLUB THEATER SPECIAL: 'SKIDOO (1968)'

When older actors want to feel relevant, they make a movie that they think the kids will like. That must have been the selling point for this 1968 Otto Preminger anomaly. Starring the likes of Jackie Gleason, Carol Channing, John Phillip Law, and Groucho Marx, among many other Hollywood legends, this movie answers the question no one asked, "What if Jackie Gleason dropped acid?" Accompanied by a Harry Nilsson soundtrack, this movie goes places you would never imagine. Be sure to stay through the end credits which are sung, verbatim, in their entirety by Nilsson. This one has to be seen to be believed.

A/V CLUB THEATER SPECIAL: RAY HARRISON'S 'ALL ABOUT ALICE (1972)' & 'WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO BABY JANE (1963)'

The 1960's spawned an entirely new generation of underground filmmakers, thanks to more access to home equipment, cheaper film stock, and loads of people with something to say. In no other subculture was the world of amateur movies more prominent than the LGBTQ+ community. The east coast rode the wave of art house cinema from the likes of Paul Morrisey and Andy Warhol, while the west coast had Ray Harrison and The Gay Girls Riding Club! This group of miscreants would meet on Sundays for brunch and maybe go for a ride. But what they really loved to do was make spoofs of the campiest films of the day. "What Really Happened to Baby Jane?" (1963) and "All About Alice" (1972) are two standouts of the many movies they made together. It's a world of drag before drag was commonplace and camp before camp was cool!
